Nestled among the hills and vineyards of Montalbano, commanding a prominent position on the hilltop that once hosted a sacred area in Etruscan times, the “Villa Medicea La Ferdinanda” was built in 1596 by the will of Grand Duke Ferdinando I de ‘Medici, designed by Bernardo Buontalenti. “Today I was at Artimino, and believe me, Your Highness, I found a spring there,” wrote the Grand Duke to his wife, Cristina di Lorena, on January 19, 1596.
Originally intended as a hunting lodge, the villa was completed in just four years and represented a link between the various family-owned properties, a place dedicated to the humanistic pursuit of arts and poetry. Ferdinando I de’ Medici, following the death of Francesco, renounced the cardinalate and sought to continue his brother’s policies: he was said to be affable and caring, inclined to support sectors such as agriculture, art, and commerce.
David and Nicola chose a captivating location to celebrate their wedding, no doubt about it!
The ceremony took place in front of the villa, with huge vases filled with flowers adorning the aisle. The newlyweds were joined by friends and relatives; over a hundred people were present to celebrate this beautiful marriage.
